Thoroughbred racing cancellations

Parx Racing has added a pair of Thursday race cards, on Mar. 5 and Mar. 12, to its calendar in an effort to make up days lost to the recent blizzard that impacted the northeast. Beginning Monday, the track will shift to a 12:40 p.m. regular first post.

Winter weather continued to wreak havoc on the live racing schedule with Laurel Park forced to cancel its Saturday card due to frigid temperatures and windy conditions expected to impact the Mid-Atlantic region. Winter weather also forced Laurel to cancel its race cards last Friday and Saturday. Live racing was expected to continue as scheduled at the Maryland track Thursday and Friday, with first post time of 12 p.m.

Live racing has been cancelled at Turfway Park on Wednesday and Thursday due to severe winter weather in the Florence, Kentucky area. Officials from the National Weather Service are forecasting wind chill values to not rise above the single digits over the next 48 hours and dip as low as minus 11 degrees on Wednesday. Turfway Park officials continue to monitor the forecast and will make a determination Wednesday regarding Friday and Saturday's racing cards.

Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms in the Wilmington area caused officials to cancel the remainder of the races at Delaware Park Thursday. Racing was abandoned following the fifth of nine scheduled races at the track. Live racing is scheduled to resume at Delaware Park Friday.

Live racing at Parx was cancelled Tuesday and Wednesday in the wake of a winter storm which moved through the Philadelphia area Monday night. Frigid temperatures and wintry conditions also forced the cancellation of live racing both days at Mahoning Valley in Austintown, Ohio. Additional cancellations include Tuesday's card at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Live racing at Parx was cancelled Monday. Temperatures in the Philadelphia area hovered in the upper 20's during the day with forecasted snow expected by the afternoon. Sam Houston Race Park also cancelled its Monday card due to inclement weather conditions. Live racing is expected to return at Parx Tuesday and at Sam Houston on Friday.
