What Was Your Favorite Moment of 2023: Aurelien Voileau

As 2023 draws to a close, the TDN is asking industry members to name their favorite moment of the year. Send yours to suefinley@thetdn.com. I think my favorite moment of 2023 was Epsom Derby day. The Derby was a great race which included Passenger for Flaxman Stables Ireland Ltd., who was a bit too immature for this big event but who has won the G3 Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor since. The winner, Auguste Rodin, doesn't need any introduction now but what an impressive horse. Winning a Group 1 as...

Speightstown's El Terreno Blitzes Over Gulfstream Tapeta To 'TDN Rising Stardom'

Given the dominance she showed when blowing away a field of Presque Isle maidens by 11 lengths in fast time on her six-furlong debut Oct. 25, the connections of El Terreno (Speightstown--Palma, by Malibu Moon) would hardly have been dismayed when Friday's second race from Gulfstream Park was washed off the turf and onto the synthetic surface. Accordingly smashed into 2-5 favoritism, the Castleton Lyons homebred duly obliged with another commanding performance, this one good for 'TDN Rising Star' honors. Kicked straight into the lead by Irad Ortiz, Jr., El...

What Was Your Favorite Moment Of 2023: Pat Cummings

As 2023 draws to a close, the TDN is asking industry members to name their favorite moment of the year. Send yours to suefinley@thetdn.com "The best moment from 2023 was the confirmation that the state of New York would be loaning NYRA nearly half a billion dollars to build a modern Belmont Park. I'd rate this occurrence as possibly the most positive development in the sport since the founding of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. The seeds of this were planted in the years before VLT revenue started flowing in New...
