During the event O'Rourke was asked about Juddmonte's process when it comes to where they race their horses and how they decide to keep certain stock either abroad or in the U.S. "It used to be, years ago, sometimes when Lasix was...
Construction that began earlier this summer on three horse show arenas is nearing completion in the Santa Anita Park infield and will not affect training or racing at the track, according to a Wednesday 1/ST Racing press release. Led by track consultant Dennis Moore, the construction will not impact morning training or afternoon racing as the Autumn Meet opens at the end of September. The arenas will be used for the first time in collaboration with The Lugano Diamonds Split Rock Jumping Tour, and will feature two weeks of back-to-back...
A concrete foundation is the bedrock of any structure. Building a successful Thoroughbred partnership needs that same footing. You need rock-hard determination, the right aggregate of experience and the liquidity to maintain elasticity. Without such a concrete foundation, the tallest of ambitions can crumble, but with one in place, you can find long-term success and come out smelling like a rose. For BBN Racing, the first scent of success came from the appropriately-named mare Concrete Rose (Twirling Candy) who won over $1.2 million and four graded stakes, including the Grade...
Wagering on U.S. races, plus available and paid purses, all saw increases to varying degrees when compared to a year ago in August, while the number of race days and races themselves saw a slight uptick during the month, according to information released by Equibase on Thursday. Total wagering of over $1.1 billion on races during the month represented a 5.53% increase over the same period from 2023, while available purses of over $142.7 million were up by 7.38%. The figure of over $136.6 million for paid purses in August...

Formidable Man (City of Light), favored off a win in the Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar July 20, stormed to the lead and held off Stay Hot late to earn his first graded victory in the GII Del Mar Derby at the oceanside oval Sunday. The 6-5 favorite was away smartly before settling off the pace as longshot Sketchy (Uncle Mo) set a pedestrian pace. The tempo quickened noticeably on the far turn and Formidable Man rolled up three wide into the lane to hit the lead at midstretch. Stay...
Some say the Boy Scout bugle merit badge is one of the toughest to collect. In Thoroughbred racing it is winning a dirt race from way off the pace. In his Sunday debut at Del Mar, the 'TDN Insighted' Bullard (Gun Runner--Reve d'Amour, by Warrior's Reward) sounded his bugle and charged home to graduate, which earned the 2-year-old a 'TDN Rising Star' merit badge for his effort. Trailing from the bell, the $675,000 Keeneland September grad watched from the rear of the field as 60 cents on the dollar favorite...
Cicero Farms homebred Hope Road (Quality Road) rolled in the GIII Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar on Saturday afternoon and proved her two prior five-length wins for trainer Bob Baffert were no fluke. Beginning in the care of John Sadler, last summer at the seaside oval the then-juvenile was the runner-up twice against maiden special weights before being well-beaten in the GI Del Mar Derby. Making the barn switch in September, the filly broke through with a strong performance at Santa Anita in mid-June to start her 3-year-old season...
You know how the quote reads directly from the handicapper's Bible, "Behold the pale horse with controlling speed." Heeding that warning arrives once again on Sunday. Halfway through the three-day holiday weekend of Thoroughbred racing, Saratoga and Del Mar card graded races. The Spa's GI Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes, the penultimate 'Win and You're In' pass to the Breeders' Cup Classic, sets the tone with a myriad of intriguing storylines woven into this fleece as a half dozen entries will try to catch that aforementioned 'pale horse' Arthur's Ride...
7th-SAR, $100K, Msw, 2yo, f, 7f, 3:25 p.m. ET. ALL THE FEELS (Into Mischief) was produced in-house at Spendthrift Farm and will make her first start for trainer Todd Pletcher. GSW Positive Spirit (Pioneerof the Nile) joined the farm's broodmare band after she was acquired for $1.5 million at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Fall Mixed Sale and has handed All the Feels a pair of full-siblings. The Spa debut runner's GSW/GISP second dam is also responsible for GI Kentucky Derby hero Always Dreaming (Bodemeister) and GI Spinaway Stakes heroine Hot Dixie...
