Winter Cancellations

Turfway Park Racing & Gaming has canceled its Friday and Saturday Jan. 30-31 live racing cards due to continued subzero wind chill temperatures expected in the Florence, Ky. area. Wednesday and Thursday's cards had previously been canceled amid the prolonged cold conditions, with live racing scheduled to resume Wednesday, Feb. 4. Additional information regarding makeup dates for Friday's $125,000 Wishing Well Stakes and Saturday's $125,000 Forego Stakes will be announced in the coming days. Still dealing with the effects of the winter weather which caused the cancellation of four racing days last week, Mahoning Valley has shifted its racing schedule for the coming week. The card drawn for Monday will instead be run next Saturday, while Tuesday's card will be run Sunday. First post for both cards will be 12:15 p.m.

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) canceled live racing on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack, as well as morning training at Belmont Park, due to arctic temperatures forecast to impact the New York metropolitan throughout the day, the organization said in a release Friday afternoon. Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course was forced to move its scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 18 race card to Friday, Jan. 21 due to the lingering effects of Winter Storm Izzy, which dumped some eight-plus inches of snow in the Youngstown, OH area. It was also forced to cancel Monday's card due to the storm. First post for Friday's card will be 12:45 p.m., and live racing is scheduled to resume at Mahoning Valley at the same time Wednesday.

Laurel Park was forced to cancel racing Sunday for a second straight day due to winter weather. On Saturday it pushed back its Winter Sprintfest program, featuring the GIII Runhappy Barbara Fritchie S. and GIII General George S., until next Saturday, Feb. 20. Racing is currently scheduled to be held on Monday, Presidents Day, with a first post of 12:25 p.m.
