Parabellum, who attracted Arqana’s record price of €2.6-million when topping the sheets at the 2015 August sale, was compromised by inexperience when narrowly defeated in his Apr. 16 Chantilly debut and again at this track last time May 19, and went some way to justifying his lofty price tag with a blistering display here. Professional from the gate and positioned in a prominent second for the most part, the 3-5 favourite eased to the front soon after turning for home and surged ever clear inside the final quarter mile to score by a highly impressive eight lengths from Mondo Bello (Fr) (Soldier Hollow {GB}). The G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe entry is the first scorer produced by G3 Prix de Lutece victress Pacifique (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}), herself a half to Listed Prix de la Seine winner Prudenzia (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), who in turn produced G1 Irish Oaks heroine and G1 Prix de Diane runner-up Chicquita (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). The latter hit the headlines herself when selling for €6-million at Goffs as part of Paul Makin’s 2013 dispersal and is from a family which features G1 Epsom Oaks, G1 Irish Oaks and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Alexandrova (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells), and G1 Cheveley Park S. victress Magical Romance (Ire) (Barathea {Ire}).
