Emma Berry is on Newmarket Heath on Day One of the Ban

There will be no racing in England until the end of April. Emma Berry reports from Newmarket Heath, and chats with several top horsemen about how they're keeping on.

It's the first day of six weeks of no racing in Britain in an effort to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus, a situation many countries are facing themselves across the world. In the case that racing resumes on the first of May, it will be the day before the first Classic of the British season, the 2000 Guineas followed by the 1000 Guineas. Yet, those days are still tentative even with this effort to prevent the virus from spreading.

In this current racing ban, Britain is losing all of its Classic trials and the start of the flat turf season. The racing community fully understands the situation and are doing all they can to ensure the virus doesn't spread any further. Behind the scenes of racing, the race horses still need to be exercised and the stables are running with staff fulfilling their job as best they can.
