Barn Fire Claims 15 Horses at Crane Thoroughbreds

A barn fire at Crane Thoroughbreds claimed the lives of 15 horses Saturday.

“It was our sale baby barn,” Clovis Crane confirmed via text. “We lost 15 2-year-olds. I got seven out, but the eighth wouldn't come out.”

Crane said his family and staff were uninjured in the blaze.

Crane Thoroughbreds, located near Penn National Race Course, offers year-round breaking and sales prep. A national champion rodeo cowboy and former jockey, Crane is active in the yearling-to-juvenile pinhooking market.

In addition, Glen Brok and Brookledge have generously offered a truck to take donations from Ocala to Pennsylvania Tuesday, and consignors Jodie (Grassroots) and Susan (SBM) are organizing drop-offs Monday between 2-3:30 at OBS's front parking lot. If anyone wants to donate and can't drop off Monday, please call Susie Hart (540-974-5458), who will be picking up at farms in Marion County all day. The Brookledge van is leaving at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
