A Look Ahead With Ed Sackville

Horse you are most looking forward to seeing this season?

ES: Almanzor (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) and Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Both were very exciting horses last year and could be even better this year. I'd love to see them race against each other again. On a personal note I'm looking forward to seeing Kachy (GB), son of Kyllachy (GB) purchased at Goffs UK, run as a 4-year-old. He was an arguably unlucky second in the G1 Commonwealth Cup against 3-year-olds at Royal Ascot and then found life hard against older horses. Now that he is a 4-year-old, I hope we see him at his best.

A stallion who could feature prominently (doesn't have to be first season)?

ES: I'm very much looking forward to seeing Camelot (GB)'s first runners, simply because I loved him as a racehorse. I was desperate to see him win the Triple Crown and was very disappointed for our sport that he just missed out–look at the hype created by American Pharoah winning the U.S. Triple Crown. I also hope that Frankel (GB)'s 3-year-olds feature prominently. His initial runners were very promising and I think it is great for our sport when an already high-profile horse becomes even more prominent in the public eye.

Positive change you would like to see for the industry in 2017?

ES: As ever, increased prize money is the obvious positive answer. We are lucky to have some of the best, if not the best and most prestigious, racing in the world, and it is a shame our prize money can't match it.
