Sophie Able has been appointed the General Manager of Newmarket Racecourses following a recruitment process, Jockey Club Racecourses announced Monday. She will report to Amy Starkey, JCR's East Regional Director. Able joined The Jockey Club in 2005 as a commercial executive at Huntingdon Racecourse. She is a graduate of both JCR's Management Academy and the British Horseracing Authority graduate scheme. Able was Managing Director of Huntingdon Racecourse from 2008-2012 and has been the Head of Sales for JCR's East Region for the past five years.
“Sophie is extremely talented and, with considerable and varied experience in a number of roles within Jockey Club Racecourses, she is the ideal person to take up the new position of General Manager at Newmarket,” said Starkey. “She has made a most valuable contribution to the JCR East Region's senior management team in recent years and has built strong relationships with the whole team in the Group as well as with horsemen, sponsors and other professional and commercial partners.”
“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to further develop my career within The Jockey Club,” said Able, who is also a member of the Region's senior management team. “I am passionate about the success of Newmarket Racecourses, its status in the local community and in British Racing. We are lucky to welcome many of the world's finest racehorses, jockeys and trainers to compete on the flat and we will be working hard to provide them and all our customers with the best possible experience in the years ahead.”
