Acclamation Filly Tops Final Day

Lot 839 | Tattersalls Ireland

An filly by Acclamation (GB) (Royal Applause {GB}) bought as a breeze-up prospect topped the second and final day of the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale Part II. The inaugural Day 2 session of Part II of the sale produced an aggregate of €747,000, an average price of €6,229 and a median of €4,750 for 120 horses sold. The total for the two days saw €1,868,400 worth of horses change hands for an average of €6,998 and a median of €5,000. At the conclusion of the day's trade Tattersalls Ireland managing director Roger Casey said, “Last year, the September Yearling Sale broke a significant number of records and had double digit growth across the board and was complemented by an extremely strong renewal of Part II. As a result of this we were understandably faced with unprecedented demand for places at this year's Sale. To accommodate this demand we had to catalogue a significantly bigger number than in 2015 and the extra numbers especially in Part II invariably contributed to a market which has been quiet selective.” He continued, “That said, we have seen further progression in overall terms with a record average and median for Part I of the Sale along with the best aggregate ever for the two day Sale.”

The abovementioned sale topper, offered by Cooneen Stud as lot 839 was knocked down to John Hussey for €46,000 who commented, “She is a lovely filly, from a good pedigree. She will breeze with Grove Stud – and I always buy fillies, you can't go wrong with a nice filly!” Hussey admitted afterwards that he “had to go a bit further” than he had planned. Trainer Joseph Murphy, buying under Crampscastle Bloodstock, returned to a family he knows purchasing lot 835, a filly by Zoffany (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) for €35,000 from Owenstown Stud. Murphy trains the filly's 2-year-old half-brother by Kodiac (GB) (Danehill). “We think a lot of the half-brother at home and I like Zoffany as a sire too,” reported Murphy. Another bought with a breeze-up plan in mind was lot 963, a Delegator (GB) (Dansili {GB}) colt sold by Donnellys Well to Roger O'Callaghan of Tally-Ho Stud. “He is a lovely colt, I waited all day for him,” said O'Callaghan. “He will come back to Tally-Ho – we'll break him in and breeze him in the spring. Delegator has been going ok too.” The next sale at Tattersalls Ireland is the inaugural Flat Foal & Breeding Stock Sale scheduled for Nov. 4.
