+DABAN (IRE) (f, 2, Acclamation {GB}–Malaspina {Ire}, by Whipper), sent off the 9-2 second favourite, was squeezed exiting the gates and ended up worse than mid-division against the rail as a consequence. Forced to wait when travelling strongly in early straight, the bay was out in time to deliver a telling surge to hit the front inside the last half furlong and beat Thafeera (War Front) by a comfortable half-length margin. The winner is a half-sister to this year's G3 Thoroughbred S. winner and G3 Jersey S. runner-up Thikriyaat (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}), GSW-Eng, $154,942. Malaspina is a half to the talented Albisola (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}), winner of the G3 Prix de Flore who was also third in the G2 Prix de Sandringham and also last year's G3 Prix Quincey winner Johnny Barnes (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) who placed second in the G1 Criterium International at two. Two other of her half-siblings Bufera (Ire) (King's Best) and Tonnara (Ire) (Linamix {Fr}) have made their mark as broodmares. The former, who accomplished more on the track by finishing third in the G3 Prix des Reservoirs, is responsible for this year's Listed Prix la Sorellina scorer and G3 Prix Chloe and G3 Prix de Lieurey runner-up Chartreuse (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}), while Tonnara produced two high-class runners in Ectot (GB) (Hurricane Run {Ire}) and Most Improved (Ire). Ectot, who promised so much at two and three in France when capturing the G1 Criterium International and G2 Prix Niel, finally came good on that at the start of last month when annihilatingFlintshire (GB) (Dansili {GB}) in the GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic S., while Most Improved took the G1 St. James's Palace S., having finished third in the G1 Dewhurst S. Also from the family of the sires Ivan Luis (Fr) and Stagelight (Ire) and the Classic-placed Hathrah (Ire) (Linamix {Fr}) and her G1SP daughter Hadaatha (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), Malaspina has a yearling colt by Pour Moi (Ire) and a filly foal by Acclamation (GB) to come.
