Al Shaqab Buys Norfolk Favorite

Sheikh Joaan's Al Shaqab Racing has purchased June 18 G2 Norfolk S. favorite King Of Rooks (GB) (Acclamation {GB}) from a partnership including Potensis Bloodstock, and the Richard Hannon-trained juvenile colt will run in the Al Shaqab Silks at Royal Ascot next week.

“King of Rooks is in great form for the Norfolk, in which he will carry new colors, those of Al Shaqab Racing, having been bought by Sheikh Joaan,” said Hannon.

King Of Rooks finished third on debut going five furlongs at Ascot May 9, and broke his maiden by six lengths at Newbury six days later when stepped up a furlong. He then bested subsequent Listed Woodcote S. winner Buratino (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) by five lengths in the Listed National S. 13 days later May 28.

Also set to wear the Al Shaqab silks at Royal Ascot, in the G2 Queen Mary S., is the 2-year-old filly Easton Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). The operation purchased 50% of the unbeaten filly from Ritchie Fiddes. Easton Angel is trained by Michael Dods.

“I'm delighted to have sold a 50% share to Al Shaqab Racing, who I have admired since their introduction to the sport in the recent years,” said Fiddes. “Easton Angel will be running the Al Shaqab silks alongside some of the best horses in the world. I'm pleased she will be staying with Michael Dods and that Paul Mulrennan, who I have sponsored for the last four years, will keep the ride.”
