Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) continued preparations for his career finale in the Oct. 31 GI Breeders' Cup Classic with a five-furlong drill at Santa Anita Sunday. The sophomore covered the distance in 1:00.00 (video).
“He went nice; he went very nice,” trainer Bob Baffert said after the work. “He was on the bit and he was into his work. He was moving well. That's the main thing.”
Baffert said American Pharoah went four furlongs in 47 4/5, while Santa Anita's official work tab credited the bay with a five-furlong time. The work was American Pharoah's second since finishing second in the Aug. 29 GI Travers S. He went four furlongs at Santa Anita last Monday in :49.80.
