Juvenile champion and recent GII Rebel S. romper American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) worked five furlongs in :58.60 at Santa Anita Sunday in preparation for a start in the GI Arkansas Derby April 11. He went in fractions of :23 4/5, :47 1/5 and :58 3/5 with a gallop out in 1:10 4/5.
Stablemate One Lucky Dane (Lookin At Lucky), who graduated last time out Mar. 19, is scheduled to contest Saturday's GI Santa Anita Derby. He covered six panels in 1:13.40 in company under Rafael Bejarano.
“Pharoah went really nice,” trainer Bob Baffert said. “He just cruised around there. One Lucky Dane went really nice, he looked really good. He was finishing up nice, so it looks like the race [on Mar. 19] didn't take anything out of him.”
