Ana O'Brien “In Great Form”

Ana O'Brien | Racing Post

Joseph O'Brien said on Thursday his sister Ana O'Brien is “in great form” after suffering serious injuries after a spill aboard the Joseph O'Brien-trained Druids Cross (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) at Killarney on Tuesday evening. The 21-year-old suffered fractured vertebra in her neck and back and fractured cheekbones but avoided brain injury, and is expected to be sidelined three to four months. Druids Cross was fatally injured in the fall.

“She's in great form, thank God, and has been very, very lucky,” O'Brien said. “Everyone that helped her here–the Order Of Malta and the doctors–you can't articulate your gratitude enough.”

O'Brien said he had been listening to the race at home.

“My television was broken, but I was listening to the race and knew fairly quickly that it was a bad fall so jumped in the car and headed for Killarney as hard as I could, but obviously met them in [at the hospital in] Cork, and she's just very lucky.”
