+SILVER ASSAULT (c, 2, Maclean's Music–Spooky Minister, by Deputy Minister), last to load in gate 10, quickly crossed most of his rivals, bar Chasing Aces (Flatter), who held a spot at the fence under a busy ride from Fernando Perez. Silver Assault bowled along neatly on the engine through fractions of :21.84 and :45.07. Still in front in upper stretch, the gray raced greenly and appeared to lose some focus as Chasing Aces and Law Abidin Citizen (Twirling Candy) were giving chase from behind. Chasing Aces finally worked off the fence and had a clear shot at Silver Assault in the final sixteenth of a mile, but the 7-2 chance stayed on well and hit the line 1 1/4 lengths in front. Silver Assault is the fourth winner for his freshman sire (by Distorted Humor). A $52,000 KEESEP yearling, Silver Assault is a half-brother to Holy Candy (Candy Ride {Arg}, GSP, $161,280), as well as to Valiant Minister (Candy Ride {Arg}), who topped last year's OBS June sale at $680,000. Spooky Minister, who was purchased by Hill 'n' Dale Bloodstock in foal to Candy Ride (Arg) for $52,000 at the 2012 Keeneland November sale, produced a colt by Bodemeister in 2015 and a filly by Atreides in 2016.
