The Goffs London Sale, which two years ago offered the first foal at public auction by undefeated champion Frankel (GB), is set to offer the first mare in foal to Cartier Horse of the Year Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) at this year's event on the eve of the Royal Ascot meeting at the Orangery, Kensington Palace, on Monday, June 13.
The 5-year-old mare Lady Penko (Fr) (Archipenko–Hespera {GB}, by Danehill), winner of the Listed Prix Caravelle and third in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary in 2014, will be consigned to the London sale as part of The Castlebridge Consignment (catalogue page). Lady Penko is a maternal granddaughter of French GSW and fellow Prix Saint-Alary placegetter Mare Nostrum (GB) (Caerleon), the dam of the Niarchos Family's G1 Grand Prix de Paris hero Erupt (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) as well as SW & GSP Marie de Medici (Medicean {GB}).
“Golden Horn is undoubtedly the most anticipated sire in Europe this year and Goffs is thrilled to offer another world first in London,” commented Goffs' Chief Executive Henry Beeby. “As was proven with the mare in foal to Frankel at the inaugural London Sale in 2014, the timing on the eve of Royal Ascot, the stunning venue and the fact that every major international bloodstock buyer is in London for racing makes this sale a wonderful platform to showcase breeding stock of this calibre. I wish to thank The Castlebridge Consignment for choosing the London Sale to sell this most exciting broodmare and we very much look forward to achieving the best price for Lady Penko in foal to Golden Horn in London.”
Added The Castlebridge Consignment's Bill Dwan, “We have had some really good sales at Goffs in recent years, including record breaking prices such as Chicquita for €6 million, the Dubawi colt foal that topped the 2015 November Sale at €1.1 million, and last year's €1.2 million Galileo colt at the Orby Sale. Hopefully Lady Penko with her excellent pedigree, Group 1 raceform, and covering by Golden Horn will attract plenty of interest.”
