Mahmood Al Zarooni's former assistant Charlie Appleby has been named as the intended trainer of the horses at Moulton Paddocks. On the day that the yard has its first runners since the scandal unfolded five weeks ago, the operation announced that the moves to establish the long-serving Appleby as the licence holder are in place. Godolphin's Racing Manager Simon Crisford told the Racing Post, “Charlie Appleby is taking the trainer's course and we will be processing his application to be a licence holder until Sheikh Mohammed decides long-term what he wants to do.”
