Astern Spikes Temperature, Out of Guineas Prelude

Astern | Steve Hart

Godolphin's Astern (Aus) (Medaglia d'Oro), who won the G1 Golden Rose S. Sept. 10, will miss the 1400-metre G3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude in Melbourne Sept. 24, reported Racing and Sports. The colt's participation in the G1 Caulfield Guineas Oct. 8 is also now up in the air. Regular pilot James McDonald will remain in Sydney to ride at Rosehill.

“The horse was found to have an elevated temperature this afternoon,” trainer John O'Shea told Racing and Sports. “His treatment will compromise his travel plans and as a result he won't be going to Melbourne for the Guineas Prelude.”
