Stonestreet Stables' “TDN Rising Star” Atreides (Medaglia d'Oro) will aim for Aqueduct's GI Cigar Mile Nov. 29 after a dissappointing sixth as the even-money favorite in the GII Indiana Derby Oct. 4.
“It was the lights and the two turns,” trainer Marty Wolfson said about Atreides suprisingly poor performance at Indiana. “The lights really seemed to bother him. The lights really startled him.”
The dark bay's three previous victories all came between six furlongs and a mile going one-turn around Gulfstream's main track. An impressive debut winner in Hallandale July 12, Atreides captured an optional claimer there Aug. 10 and romped by 17 1/2 lengths in the Monarchos S. Aug. 30.
“We're looking at the Cigar Mile,” said Wolfson. ” It's a one-turn mile.”
