Australian racehorses will no longer be permitted to be injected with hypodermic needles “one clear day” before racing, Racing Australia announced Monday. One clear day refers to the 24 hours before the day the horse is scheduled to race, plus the hours preceding competition on raceday. The ban extends to anything requiring a hypodermic needle, from blood tests to vitamin injections.

A release from Racing Australia stated there is no scientific evidence to support the need to inject a horse for health or welfare reasons during this timeframe.
