Australian Stakes Winner For Siyouni

Aylmerton, an Australian stakes winner for Siyouni | Bronwen Healy

Woodpark Stud's Aylmerton (Aus) (Siyouni {Fr}) ran his record to two-for-two and set himself up for a G1 Golden Slipper bid in two weeks' time with a win in Saturday's G2 Todman S. at Randwick. Saving ground on the rail and about three lengths off the pace early, Aylmerton followed Ef Troop (Aus) (Spirit of Boom {Aus}) through on the rail. That pair did fierce battle over the final furlong, with the 17-1 Aylmerton keeping his head in front on the line (video). The race favourite and Listed Breeders' Plate winner Performer (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) ducked out sharply in deep stretch, sending Hugh Bowman crashing hard to the turf, and the rider was later reported to have suffered a concussion. The 1200 metres was clocked in 1:08.84, slightly faster than the 1:09.10 recorded by 'TDN Rising Star' Estijaab (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) one race earlier in the G2 Reisling S. for 2-year-old fillies. The $1.40 favourite led throughout and won by a half-length under largely a hands and heels drive (video).

Cross country at Flemington, Not A Single Cent (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) kicked off an excellent double for his dam Busking (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) at Flemington when winning the G2 Sires' Produce S. an hour and a half before his elder half-brother Happy Clapper (Aus) (Teofilo {Ire}) won the G1 Canterbury S. at Randwick. Not A Single Cent will now be targeted at the autumn 2-year-old Group 1s in Sydney after returning to trainer Ciaron Maher from Aaron Purcell.
