Flying Dutchmen Breeding & Racing's Banana Frost (Authentic) capped a promising worktab with a half-mile drill in :47 4/5 from the gate on May 31 and was sent off as the 7-4 second favorite to open her account at first asking Wedensday at Churchill Downs for a barn that is in 'flying' form.
Off like a shot from the inside stall, the homebred quickly opened up on her rivals, covering the first couple of furlongs in :22.41. Making the running in the two path, Banana Frost was clear into the final furlong and had a margin of a length and three-quarters on favored Voyager (Justify) at the line.
The latter was a step slow at the start and edged to her right while tossing her head just out of the stalls. She nevertheless made a big middle move to be a final-furlong threat, but had left herself too much to do and was forced to settle for a good second at 4-5. The win was the 11th from 33 starters at the current meet for Brian Lynch.
Travis Boersma's Boardshorts Stables purchased the winner's dam for $47,000 in foal to Enticed at the 2023 Keeneland January Sale and the mare foaled a filly that season, now named Sweetsweet Victory. Candy Jar was sold on for $20,000 pregnant to Global Campaign on a May 1 cover at KEEJAN in 2025 and was exported to the Philippines. This is the female family of the late Scat Daddy.
