Hip 127, the first foal out of 2002 Horse of the Year Azeri (Jade Hunter), a colt by fellow Horse of the Year A.P. Indy, was led out of the Keeneland sales pavilion on a bid of $7.7 million. The action was fast and furious as the tote steadily climbed up to and through the $7-million plateau. A bid at $7.2 million was answered by another at $7.5 million before the hammer dropped, but the athletic chestnut colt was led back to the Hill 'n' Dale consignment. It marks the most expensive buyback in Keeneland history. Champion Adjal held the previous record when he was bought back for $7.5 million at the 1985 Keeneland July sale.
