Courtesy of 'TDN Rising Star' Mourinho (Super Saver)'s powerful victory in Monday's $150,000 Smarty Jones S., trainer Bob Baffert surpassed the $6-million mark in career earnings at Oaklawn Park ($6,021,609), needing just 50 starters to achieve the milestone.
Baffert posted his first victory in Hot Springs in 1994 when Miss Gibson County (Winrighht) won the Prima Donna S. and has become the dominant force in the track's lead-up races to the Triple Crown. Beginning with 'Rising Star' Conveyance (Indian Charlie) in the 2010 GIII Southwest S., Baffert has won no fewer than 13 races of the track's Kentucky Derby preps: the Southwest four times, the GII Rebel S. a record six times and the GI Arkansas Derby twice, highlighted by future Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in 2015.
The conditioner's record at Oaklawn Park now stands at 24-9-5 for a win rate of 48% and an in-the-money percentage of 76%. His lone non-stakes success came when Broken Tango (Broken Vow) broke his maiden in 2010.
