Derrick Smith, Michael Tabor and Susan Magnier's GII Rebel S. hero Cupid (Tapit) breezed a half-mile in :48.40 (15/55) at Santa Anita Park Thursday for Bob Baffert. The grey colt finished unplaced in the GI Arkansas Derby after sustaining an entrapped epiglottis Apr. 16 and was last seen running fifth in the 1 1/16-mile Easy Goer S. at Belmont Park June 11.
Also hailing from the Hall of Famer's barn for a four-furlong drill Thursday was GII Sorrento S. and GII Matron S. heroine Pretty N Cool (Scat Daddy). The Karl Watson, Michael E. Pegram and Paul Weitman colorbearer covered the distance with fellow Hall of Famer Mike Smith in the irons in :48 flat (11/55). The GI Del Mar Debutante S. runner-up to 'TDN Rising Star' champion juvenile filly and undefeated Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro), ran fourth in the GI Starlet S. at Los Alamitos Dec. 12 and last faced the starter in the GII Santa Ynez S. at Santa Anita Jan. 2, finishing third.
Zayat Stables's American Cleopatra (Pioneerof the Nile), an unraced full-sister to Horse of the Year and Triple Crown champ American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile), breezed a half-mile in :48.60 (24/55) in company, as she prepares for her career bow.
