Baffert Unleashes Maximum Security Firster to 'Rising Star' Honors

Tiz Secure | Benoit

Tiz Secure (c, 3, Maximum Security–Tough Tiz's Sis, by Tiznow) became the first 'TDN Rising Star' for his sophomore sire with an ultra-impressive debut victory at Santa Anita Saturday evening.

Off as the 7-2 second-choice with his Bob Baffert-trained stablemate Voldemort (Good Magic) taking the bulk of the action at 8-5, Tiz Secure broke like a shot from his outside draw, but was content to drop back to fourth as they sped through an opening quarter in :22.34.

The Karl Watson and Paul Weitman homebred began to roll while three wide on the far turn, stuck his head in front approaching the quarter pole and powered clear in the stretch with good-looking strides to win going away by 4 3/4 lengths. Voldemort was second.

Tough Tiz's Sis, a two-time Grade I winner for these same connections, has also produced Tiz Midnight (Midnight Lute), GSW & GISP, $339,800, who went on to produce MGSW & GISP Midnight Memories (Mastery). Tough Tiz's Sis is also responsible for the dam of MGSW Rocket Can (Into Mischief). After producing a filly by Collected in 2024, Tough Tiz's Sis was bred back to Maximum Security.

8th-Santa Anita, $62,000, Msw, 2-22, 3yo, 6f, 1:09.92, ft, 4 3/4 lengths.
