After the Sussex win of Here Comes When (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and Nassau second of Blond Me (GB) (Tamayuz {GB}), Andrew Balding is having a charmed Glorious meeting and Friday's G3 Bonhams Thoroughbred S. could be at the mercy of another from his stable in Beat the Bank (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}). Having beaten the re-opposing Forest Ranger (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) and subsequent Ascot handicap winner D'bai (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) with real authority in Newmarket's Listed Sir Henry Cecil S. over this trip on July 13, he sets the standard and his trainer is forthcoming in his praise. “Beat the Bank is a high-class horse and he is in great form,” Balding said. “What the ground conditions will be like by the race I'm not sure. If it is not a bog you would have to think he will go very well. It was very fast ground at Ascot [when 10th in the June 21 G3 Jersey S.] on his one blip and he probably wasn't on his game that day, but he is in great shape now and was impressive at Newmarket.”
One who will have no problem with ground conditions is the six-length July 19 Sandown handicap winner Make Time (Ire) (Makfi {GB}), whose trainer David Menuisier was happy to see the downpour on Wednesday. “He won well the other day, but that was a handicap and this is different company,” he said. “It is hard to know what to expect. He's a horse I've always thought the world of and he won really well at Salisbury last year. When he ran in the Greenham the yard was under a cloud with the virus and also the ground was too fast. The ground should suit our horse and he's in really good form, so fingers crossed.”
