Monmouth Park-based Jose Batista will be sidelined anywhere from three to six weeks after suffering fractures to his heel and ankle when his mount Sip 'n Dip broke down during the early stages of a mile-and-a-sixteenth turf race Friday, according to Dr. Angelo Chinnici, the track's medical director.

Batista was taken by ambulance to Monmouth Medical Center in nearby Long Branch for X-rays following the incident. Chinnici said that Batista is 'casted and resting' after being released from the hospital.

A 25-year-old native of Panama, Batista has ridden eight winners from 76 mounts during the current meeting. He has 41 winners from 298 rides overall in 2022.
