Defending champion El Bromista (Chi) (Scat Daddy) is highly expected to dominate a field of 16 horses entered for Sunday's G1 Gran Premio Club Hipico Falabella on turf at Club Hipico in Santiago, Chile, with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the GI Breeders' Cup Mile through the Breeders' Cup Challenge series.
The 5-year-old El Bromista, owned by Stud Burlesco and trained by Patricio Baeza, enters off two dominant victories on turf at Club Hipico, winning the 1 1/4-mile G2 Otono Pedro Garcia by five lengths on April 25, and the Listed Luis Aldunate by seven lengths on March 4. Former Southern California-based jockey Hector Berrios has the return call on El Bromista, who will break from post 14.
The 1 1/4-mile race for 3-year-olds and up also attracted 3-year-old Rio Allipen (Chi) (Seeking the Dia), winner of this year's G1 El Derby. Rio Allipen is also trained by Chile's perennial leading conditioner Patricio Baeza.
Other challengers include Flyer (Chi) (Scat Daddy), hero of the G1 Polla de Potrillos at Club Hipico last August and second in both Chilean classics, the G1 El Ensayo Mega and G1 El Derby.
Another interesting Scat Daddy entrant is Haras Vendaval's Kitcat (Chi), a 3-year old filly who has won her last three starts for trainer Juan Silva. She captured the G1 Polla de Pontrancas at Club Hipico.
A special attraction will be the participation of South America's winningest jockey Jorge Ricardo, who will arrive from Buenos Aires to pilot outsider Capricho Brillante (Chi) (Last Impact {Chi}).
