Three-time champion Beholder (Henny Hughes) is set to make her 6-year-old debut in the GIII Adoration S. at Santa Anita May 8 and, in preparation for that event, breezed a flat mile in company in 1:40 Friday at Santa Anita.

“I was happy. She looked good,” commented owner B. Wayne Hughes, who flew in from Kentucky for the work. “It went a little slow the first part but that was because of a traffic jam. The second half was perfect.”

Added trainer Richard Mandella, “It was a nice, steady mile. She went very good and everything's in good shape.”

A nine-time Grade I winner, Beholder annexed the Adoration in her second run of 2015, added a seven-length victory in the GI Clement L. Hirsch S. and then demolished a field of males in the GI TVG Pacific Classic in August. She added a facile success in taking the GI Zenyatta S. for the third year running and was set for a clash with American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic, only to be scratched sick the week of the race.

Bred in Kentucky by Clarkland Farm, Beholder, a $180,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, has won 15 of her 20 career trips to the post for earnings of $4,436,600.
