Bellamentary finished second in her September debut after breaking a bit awkwardly, then easily broke her maiden stretching out to a mile locally Oct. 1. Off a bit slow again and facing a speed duel Mar. 18 over track and trip, she had little difficulty pulling away to a clear score. Coming into this event off a non-threatening fifth behind Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) in the GI Santa Anita Oaks, the $175,000 OBS April buy was away sharply from the outside stall and stalked a longshot leader from a close second past a :22.42 quarter. Easily moving by that frontrunner under Martin Garcia after a :44.87 half, Bellamentary kicked away turning for home in the stretch and was never seriously threatened thereafter, earning her first stakes triumph by a comfortable margin over Forever Darling.
