A quarantine imposed on Barn 44 at Belmont Park due to a case of Equine Herpesvirus-1 has been lifted, the New York Racing Association announced Friday. The ban came about when an unraced 3-year-old male trained by Linda Rice tested positive for EHV-1 Jan. 9 after coming down with a fever and respiratory infection. A follow-up test on the horse last week was positive, but his most recent test Jan. 24 was negative, prompting the end of the quarantine. The horse has been kept in isolation since returning to Belmont from the nearby Ruffian Equine Hospital. He has remained afebrile and asymptomatic, but will remain in quarantine for several more days as an added precaution.
