The rest of the campaign may have been an anti-climax, but Big Brown (Boundary–Mien, by Nureyev) was breathtaking in winning the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Preakness S., and that's what voters remembered when honoring the colt as the champion three-year-old of 2008. Owned by IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr. and bred by Monticule, Big Brown was trained by Rick Dutrow Jr. 2008 Record: 7-6-0-0.
