Godolphin's Hartnell (GB) (Authorized {Ire}) has firmed into 5-1 favouritism for the A$3-million G1 Caulfield Cup Oct. 15 after an eye-catching 5 3/4-length score in Saturday's G2 Ascend Sales Trophies Hill S. going 2000 metres at Randwick. The 5-year-old gelding was notching his second-straight victory, having taken the G2 Chelmsford S. Sept. 3 by 7 3/4 lengths after finishing second to Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) in the G2 Warwick S. on seasonal debut Aug. 20.
Shortening into 8-1 second favouritism in the Caulfield Cup market on Saturday was Jameka (Aus) (Myboycharlie {Ire}), who was recording her first win since taking last year's G1 Crown Oaks when winning Caulfield's G3 Naturalism S.
“She's just got that lovely action and it was great to see it today,” trainer Ciaron Maher told Racing.com. “She's been a great horse for the stable but she hasn't been in the winner's stall for a while.”
