Trainer Bill Mott earned his third Eclipse Award as the nation's top trainer Monday night in Beverly Hills. Mott solidified the hardware with a huge Breeders' Cup weekend. On Friday, he sent out Royal Delta (Empire Maker) to victory in the GI Ladies' Classic. Some 24 hours later, Mott's longshot Drosselmeyer (Distored Humor) got up to win the GI Classic. While the final vote wasn't a nailbiter, it was a contentious category, with nine trainers getting votes. The totals were as follows: Bill Mott, 83; Bob Baffert, 60; Todd Pletcher, 57; H. Graham Motion, 23; Steve Asmussen, 15; Aidan O'Brien, 4; Jerry Hollendorfer, 1; Edmond Gaudet, 1; Dale Romans, 1; Voter Abstentions, 3.
