The Classic success enjoyed by the first crop of GI Belmont S. hero Birdstone (Grindstone) has not gone unnoticed. John Ferguson, bidding on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation, picked up a yearling colt from the Gainesway stallion's third crop for $400,000 at Day 1 of the FTKJUL sale. Consignor Dapple Stud paid just $37,000 for the dark bay as a short yearling in January at Keeneland. The April foal is a half to SP Por Que (Whywhywhy).
