Mind Your Biscuits (Posse), last seen annexing the GI Malibu S. out at Santa Anita Dec. 26 over recent GII Gulfstream Park H. romper Sharp Azteca (Freud), gets his 4-year-old campaign underway Saturday in the GIII Gulfstream Park Sprint. The GII Amsterdam S. winner and GI Breeders' Cup Sprint third finisher–who was subsequently awarded second purse money due to the DQ of Masochistic (Sought After)–is now under the care of co-owner Chad Summers, who took out his trainer's license after the Malibu. The New York-bred was previously conditioned by Robert Falcone, Jr.
“He's a serious horse,” Summers told the Gulfstream Park press department. “We think he has a really bright 2017 ahead of him.”
Another exciting 4-year-old resurfaces here in the form of 'TDN Rising Star' Unified (Candy Ride {Arg}). The Centennial Farms colorbearer started off his career three-for-three, including a convincing score in the seven-furlong GIII Bay Shore S. in April and a saved-by-the-line success in the GII Peter Pan S. over nine panels in May. He was last seen finishing a puzzling fifth in Monmouth's two-turn GIII Pegasus S. June 19.
“He had done a lot in a short time. We asked the impossible of him and he gave it to us,” trainer Jimmy Jerkens said. “He won the Bay Shore and we stretched him out in the Peter Pan. I think it got to him a little bit.”
The $325,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga grad most recently fired a five-furlong bullet in :59 4/5 at Palm Meadows Feb. 17.
“He's had of plenty of works,” Jerkens noted. “He started back in training a little heavy and a little sluggish for a while, but the last two or three works he has really got it together.”
Early Entry (Keyed Entry) and Delta Bluesman (Wagon Limit), one-two in the restricted Sunshine Millions Sprint S. Jan. 21; GIII Mr. Prospector S. upsetter Squadron A (Unbridled's Song); and turf-to-dirt longshot Divine Warrior (Divine Park) round out the field.
