Blue 'Pointing' Towards Middle Park

The G1 Juddmonte Middle Park S. at Newmarket Sept. 24 looks the next likely target for Godolphin's exciting juvenile Blue Point (Ire) (Shamardal). The 'TDN Rising Star' has only found Al Shaqab's Mehmas (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) too good in a four race career so far when outgunned by that Hannon colt in the G2 Qatar Richmond S. at Goodwood. He re-established his credentials when a smooth winner of the G2 ITM Gimcrack S. at York Aug 20. “We've always thought a lot of the horse and we were not disappointed when he was beaten at Goodwood,” said his trainer Charlie Appleby. “He was beaten through greenness in the Richmond, but he came out of that race very well and he could not have been more impressive in the Gimcrack.” The Godolphin team toyed with stepping the colt up to seven furlongs but his homework suggests top level contests over six furlongs and a potential clash with Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) could be within his remit. “After Goodwood we contemplated stepping him up to seven furlongs but he put in a blistering piece of work and showed that natural pace again so we decided to stick at six. Mentally and physically he has done well, and the likelihood is now that he will head for the Middle Park as he just shows us so much speed at the moment,” Appleby added.
