For the fifth year in a row horse racing legend Jim Bolger and former champion jump jockey Davy Russell will bring household names from horse racing and Gaelic football and hurling together to take part in Hurling for Cancer Research, a celebrity hurling match in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. The exhibition match will take place at St Conleth's Park, Newbridge, Co. Kildare on Aug. 9 at 6.30pm. To date, the event has raised €400,000 to help fund innovative cancer research projects in Ireland and the aim is to raise a further €100,000 this year. Tickets, costing €10 for adults and €15 for families, are currently on sale and can be ordered online on www.cancer.ie/catalog/tickets or by phone on CallSave 1850 60 60 60. All money raised will go to the Irish Cancer Society to fund researchers improving the lives of people across the country affected by the disease. “Since we started Hurling for Cancer in 2012 we have had tremendous support from Ireland's talented sportsmen and women who take to the pitch to raise much needed funds for cancer research,” said Jim Bolger. “Most families in Ireland have been touched by cancer and Davy and I are firm believers that investment in research is key to finding a cure in the future. We are proud to support the research being carried out by the Irish Cancer Society and look forward to a great game again this year,” Bolger added.
