Godolphin's Skiffle (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), fifth in last Friday's G1 Investec Oaks in her third start, will now get a summer break, according to trainer Charlie Appleby. Skiffle had been supplemented to the Oaks at a cost of £30,000 after winning Goodwood's Listed Height Of Fashion S. May 19, but was beaten 24 lengths by Minding at Epsom. Trainer Charlie Appleby said the filly's lack of seasoning saw her out.
“Basically, the filly showed her inexperience round there,” said Appleby. “[Jockey] William [Buick]'s first reaction was the ground, as it was something she had never incurred before. The pace of the race was very stop-start and you can see that by the time of the race.”
“That was her third run in four weeks,” Appleby added. “She has come out of the race fine, but we will now give her a break and regroup late July, early August to see where we are. She has done nothing wrong this season. We might just run her once more this season and that might be her then done. She will be a filly that is better as a 4-year-old when she has strengthened up.”
