Buena Vista Up in the Air

Illuminant | Benoit

Saturday's GII Buena Vista S. at Santa Anita was supposed to mark the comeback of last May's GI Gamely S. heroine Illuminant (Quality Road), but with the Arcadia oval being forced to cancel racing Friday due to extremely heavy rain and strong winds, it seems unlikely that the Saturday's feature will be contested on the turf–if at all. Should they run the Buena Vista over the main track, there are several runners who could benefit. Mokat (Uncle Mo) has back form on dirt–she was third and second, respectively, behind superstar Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) in the GIII Santa Ysabel S. and GI Santa Anita Oaks. Failing to make any impact in the GI Kentucky Oaks, she took to the Del Mar turf in July to annex the GII San Clemente H. The Richard Baltas trainee was most recently 12th in the GI American Oaks on New Year's Eve. Wild At Heart (Indian Charlie) has raced on dirt in all but one of her 10 previous outings. She returned to the main track to finish second behind Vale Dori (Arg) (Asiatic Boy {Arg}) in the GII Bayakoa H. at Del Mar Dec. 3, but was a well-beaten fourth behind that streaking foe in the local GII La Canada S. Jan. 14.
