Bumper Catalogue for Tatts February Sale

Tattersalls walking ring | Tattersalls

Tattersalls begins its sales year Thursday with one of the smallest auctions of its calendar, the single-session February Sale. A record number of 387 mares, yearlings and horses in training had been catalogued but, after withdrawals, a little over 300 lots will go through the ring from 10 a.m.

Last year's renewal posted record figures for turnover and median and was headed by Sutton Veny (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), an 80,000gns in-foal mare purchase by David Redvers. Forty mares are offered in foal today and they include lot 135, the G3 Sweet Solera S. runner-up Don't Forget Faith (Victory Gallop), who is being sold by Highclere Stud with an Apr. 6 cover by Kingman (GB).

Following the recent merger of Godolphin and Darley, lots being sold by Sheikh Mohammed's operation will be consigned under the name Godolphin for the first time. The consignment features 39 fillies and mares (after withdrawals), including Millionaires Row (lot 247), a 5-year-old daughter of the late Dynaformer whose half-sister Lucifer's Stone (Horse Chestnut {SAf}) won the GI Garden City Breeders' Cup S. Also among the Godolphin offerings is 3-year-old Soofiah (GB) (King's Best)

(lot 155), a winning sister to G1 Dubai Duty Free S. winner Sajjhaa (GB).

The 14 2-year-olds catalogued include a trio of fillies by Peintre Celebre all offered by the late Guy Reed's Copgrove Hall Stud.

The same consignor also has three mares for sale, including Cards (GB) (Tobougg {Ire}) (lot 48), a half-sister to Reed's dual Group-winning sprinter Tiddliwinks (GB) and in foal to his sire Piccolo (GB) on an Apr. 11 cover.

The day's action kicks off in what has become the traditional fashion with the TBA's annual flat stallion parade, which features 12 first- and second-season sires. Among those making their debut in the parade are Highclere Stud's Cable Bay (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Due Diligence, the first son of War Front to stand in England, based at Whitsbury Manor Stud. Fellow newcomers on show from 9:30 a.m. are Fountain Of Youth (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), Intrinsic (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), Music Master (Ire) (Piccolo {GB}), Mustajeeb (GB) (Nayef) and Supplicant (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}).
