Breaking her maiden at the first attempt over 5 1/2 furlongs on testing ground at Chantilly at the start of June, Alrahma was able to step up and beat the colts in this first pattern-race test of the Deauville festival. Settled just off the pace early by Aurelien Lemaitre, the dark bay grabbed the lead with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining and stayed on best to secure the win from another filly in Fixette, with the favourite North Thunder only staying on at the one pace in third. “She is a lovely filly who I like a lot and I don't think she was 100% today, as she had delays in her preparation and had coughed a bit,” trainer Freddy Head explained. “It was not ideal to bring her to this, but she's good and did it well. She was slightly green, but I couldn't be more happy. I think she'll stay further in time, as there is a lot of stamina in her family, but in the meantime if all is well we will come back here for the [Aug. 21] G1 Prix Morny.”
Alrahma's inherent stamina that her trainer refers to is evident close-up, with the dam having won the Listed Prix le Fabuleux over nine furlongs and been second in the G3 Prix de Psyche over another furlong and a half. She is a full-sister to the black type-winning miler and GIII Noble Damsel S. runner-up Thai Haku (Ire), while the next dam Vingt et Une is a full to the G1 Prix Lupin winner and sire Johann Quatz (Fr) and a half to the G1 Prix du Jockey Club hero and leading sire Hernando (Fr). Their dam is the G3 Prix du Calvados scorer Whakilyric (Miswaki), who was also third in the G1 Prix de la Salamandre and G1 Prix de la Foret and whose other descendants include the G1 Hong King Cup hero Akeed Mofeed (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). Albaraah also has a yearling filly by Dansili (GB) and a 2016 full-brother to this winner.
