+QUEEN ANNE'S LACE (f, 2, Lonhro {Aus}–Harpeth, by Sadler's Wells) was caught napping as the gates opened, but recovered well through a large field to track the leaders along the fence in fourth after the initial exchanges of this unveiling. Gaining one spot at halfway, the 10-1 chance eased to the front passing the quarter-mile marker and was ridden clear before gearing down late to score by an impressive 4 1/2 lengths from Bound (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). “I don't know much about her and asked the boss [Dermot Weld] where he'd been hiding her,” revealed jockey Pat Smullen. “She quickened and picked up like a smart filly, there's a lot to look forward to with her and she impressed me. For a first-time-out filly, she knew her job and was always travelling well.” Trainer Dermot Weld added, “She's a nice filly, owned and bred by Calumet [Farm], and it's lovely to have a nice filly for them. She worked well the other morning, I thought she'd run well and there is nice improvement in her. She had a good draw in one, but it didn't really matter as she was just too good for them. She'll have one more run this season and we'll have a crack at a stakes race. She stays well, but needs a nice ease in the ground.” Queen Anne's Lace is the first winner produced by Harpeth (Sadler's Wells), a half to Listed Noel Murless S. and Listed March S. placegetter Centaurus (GB) (Daylami {Ire}), who shares her granddam Dayanata (Ire) (Shirley Heights {GB}) with three-time Group 1 scorer Hunter's Light (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). Harpeth, herself a $425,000 KEESEP yearling in 2006, has also produced a colt foal by Musketier (Ger) and was bred to Grey Swallow (Ire) this year. The winner's fourth dam is G3 Prix de Pomone third Delsy (Fr) (Abdos {Fr}), whose dynasty includes G1 Prix du Jockey Club-winning champion and leading sire Darshaan (GB) (Shirley Heights {GB}), and a plethora of top-level performers headed by MG1SW sire Daliapour (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), who is a son of European highweight and G1 Prix Royal-Oak third Dalara (Ire) (Doyoun {Ire}); and Dar Re Mi (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}) and Rewilding (GB) (Tiger Hill {Ire}), a MG1SW pair out of G1 Prix Vermeille victress Darara (Ire) (Top Ville {Ire}). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $10,636. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
