CONQUEST HARDCANDY (f, 3, Candy Ride {Arg}–Dade Babe {GSW, $164,866}, by Cimarron Secret) was scooped up for $40,000 as part of the Conquest Stables dispersal at the Keeneland November Sale and delivered on the investment with a wire-to-wire upset at odds of 30-1 in the Sunday nightcap in Hallandale. Sent straight to the front, the bay showed the way through fractions of :23.47 and :47.62 and braced for a challenge from first-timer Game Factor (The Factor) in upper stretch. Finding more, she rebroke and kicked clear to score by 1 1/2 lengths over that rival, stopping the clock in 1:28.61 for 7 1/2 furlongs on the lawn. Conquest Hardcandy made one start as a 2-year-old for trainer Mark Casse prior to her sale, missing the break and never factoring in a seventh-place finish traveling five furlongs in New York-bred company at Belmont in May. The filly displayed some upbeat workouts across town at Gulfstream Park West ahead of this return from an extended layup. The winner's dam, who won the GIII Pucker Up S. on grass, is also responsible for a yearling filly by Hard Spun. She most recently visited Bodemeister.
