Cape Blanco Retired

Jim and Fitri Hay, Derrick Smith, Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor's Cape Blanco (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) has been retired through injury, it was announced today. The news came in the form of a tweet from trainer Aidan O'Brien's wife Anne Marie, which read, “Cape Blanco has been retired to stud following an injury he sustained when winning the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont.” Cape Blanco was winning his third consecutive top-level contest Stateside this term on Saturday, having plundered the July 9 GI Man O'War S. and Aug. 13 GI Arlington Million. He was also the winner of last year's G1 Irish Derby and G1 Irish Champion S. and retires as with nine successes from 15 starts and over £2.5million in prize money.
