He nearly ran out of time but Klaravich Stable runner Capital Partner (GB) (Kingman {GB}) put in a furious rally down the middle of the Saratoga turf course Saturday to become a new 'TDN Rising Star'.
The debuting colt, purchased for 360,000gns out of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 last season, left himself with plenty of work to do early after getting squeezed back in a tight spot on the run into the first turn. Racing at the back of the second flight under Flavien Prat, the 9-5 favorite had to bid his time as pacesetter Orbit (Medaglia d'Oro) held the lead from British Invasion (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) through an opening half-mile in :48.94.
Seventh and still behind runners with a ton of ground to make up into the far turn, Capital Partner really picked up the bridle once swung into clear air nearing the quarter pole. Despite racing greenly down the stretch, weaving in and out and swapping back to his incorrect lead late, the favorite timed his move to perfection and rallied impressively to nail the frontrunners in the final strides for the win.

Capital Partner is the 37th 'TDN Rising Star' for European sensation Kingman who was a 'Rising Star' himself in his own debut at Newmarket back in 2013. Of note, this is his first 'Rising Star' on North American soil (and second overall) since future MGSW/MGISP Technical Analysis (Ire) won at Belmont Park in 2021 also for the partnership of Klaravich Stables and trainer Chad Brown. First dam Blue Waltz has produced five foals and two winners led by GSP Euphoric (GB) (Frankel {GB}) who was a 1,900,000gns buy for M.V. Magnier and White Birch Farm out of the same Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2022.
The dam is herself a half to globe-trotting MGSW/MG1SP Fantasia (GB) (Sadler's Wells) who has gone on to produce GSW Berlin Tango (GB) (Dansili {GB}). Second dam Blue Symphony (GB) also went the way of M.V. Magnier for an even 1,000,000gns at Tattersalls during the December Mare Sale in 2012. The family has plenty of European and American back class to it with the likes of GISW Highland Chief (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}), MGSW/MG1SP Western Hymn (GB) (High Chaparral {Ire}), European champion 2-year-old filly Blue Duster and GISW Chili Flag (Fr) (Cityscape {GB}) all listed as extended family members. Capital Partner is his dam's last reported offspring.
