Capitalist Only Fourth On Comeback

Star Turn | Racing And Sports

Last season's G1 Golden Slipper winner and 'TDN Rising Star' Capitalist (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) suffered a shock defeat when finishing only fourth in the G3 San Domenico S. at Rosehill on Saturday. Making his seasonal debut after pleasing in recent barrier trials Capitalist was well placed throughout in the 1100m contest under Blake Shinn but straightening up it was clear that Star Turn (Aus) (Star Witness {Aus}) was traveling ominously well under Tommy Berry. As soon as Berry pushed the button, the Hawkes' 3-year-old stretched out nicely for a cosy win over Tango Rain (Aus) (Manhattan Rain {Aus}), who had made much of the running, with another three parts back to Kentucky Miss (Aus) (Foxwedge {Aus}) in third. β€œHe couldn't be going any better this horse, look at him he's a monster, he has plenty of improvement in him,” Tommy Berry told Racing.com. β€œI know Capitalist has an amazing turn of foot so I didn't want to be caught napping and in the end I would love to have held on a little longer,” the rider added. Despite conceding 4kg to the first two home it was still a disappointing effort from the Snowden trained Capitalist, and in jockey Blake Shinn's opinion it was the weight that attributed to the colt's tame response in the closing stages.
