Caulfield Meeting Abandoned

Saturday's meeting at Caulfield Racecourse, which was to feature the G3 Bletchingly S., was abandoned after the fourth race due to high winds. The action was taken by stewards after the jockeys unanimously deemed the conditions unsafe.

“There has been strong winds around 70 kilometres per hour and gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour,” Acting Chief Steward Robert Cram told Racing.com. “The starting stalls have been moving around and horses have been shifting in the races due to the high winds and there was an element of danger. The jockeys weren't happy with the situation and it is the stewards' position under the current Racing Victoria guidelines to enact the jockey anonymous voting policy that we have in place and the jockeys voted that the conditions weren't safe to ride.”

The Bletchingly will be run Sunday, Aug. 5 at Ladbrokes Park Sandown, and trainer Mick Price indicated that former champion sprinter Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) would still contest the race.
